Kozmik Communications

Kozmik Communications was one of the leading DJ organizations in Yugoslavia. It was founded in autumn 1994 by Radio B92 music editors Gordan Paunović, Vlada Janjić & Boža Podunavac. With the birth of Kozmik and another big organization, Integra, nothing was the same on the Yugoslav techno scene. In their own words, they formed Kozmik because they were not satisfied with the sound played in the clubs, mostly trance and commercial versions of techno and house. They were into funky techno and house, as they still were, plus drum'n'bass and jungle, which were added later.

A year after its genesis, Kozmik started to bring international DJs, first and foremost techno, then house and drum'n'bass. In the beginning they started with not-so-famous names, but as their reputation grew, they brought very big ones. The international guests Kozmik brought to Belgrade were (in chronological order): Riccardo Rocchi / ACV Records, Mark EG / Eternity Magazine, Warlock / Kickin Records, Ross Allen / Dorado & Filter Records, Craig Thomas / Digital Nation, Colin Faver / Deep Space / Kiss 100 FM, Nikki C / Jungle Mania / Jungle Nation, Stuart McMillan & Orde Meikle (Slam) / Soma, Phil Perry / Full Circle, Brenda Russell / Deep Space / Mayday 9, Billy Nasty / Theremin Management, Trevor Rockcliffe / Ultimate, Francesco Farfa (Italy), Hell / Disko B, Eric Powell / Ultimate, Charlie Hall / MC Projects / Ultimate, Misjah / X Trax / XS & Daz Saund / Ultimate.

Kozmik DJs didn't play at raves organized in Yugoslavia. From the beginning, they said, they wanted to be only a small addition to the scene, and its corrector, and they always had a clear underground concept, so the organizers of bigger events never called them. The one exception was Teknosys, a rave organized by Kozmik, Integra and the club Industria the previous year, where Boža Podunavac played with Misjah, Good Groove, Andy Slate and Mark Wee. Kozmik DJs played in almost all Belgrade clubs and cafes, first of all Industria, Soul Food, Dom Omladine and Barutana / UrbaBar, then Shlep, Omen and Magna House, as well as in many clubs around Yugoslavia and Macedonia.

Kozmik also had good coverage on the radio. They had four shows on Radio B92 (92.5 MHz FM): Spin, BPM and Relaksacija, which were among the first techno shows in Yugoslavia, and Club Chart. Relaksacija aired every Monday from 01:00 to 02:00 and presented deep house by Vlada Janjić. Spin was edited by Gordan Paunović and aired every Tuesday from 22:00 to 24:00. It played new techno, house and drum'n'bass releases, and in its second hour featured the Spin Mix, a mix by a DJ from the Belgrade scene. BPM was Boža Podunavac's two-hour live techno mix, which ran every Friday from 02:00 to 04:00. Club Chart aired every Saturday from 22:00 to 23:00 and presented the techno, house and drum'n'bass hits picked by the music editors of Radio B92.
